Pure Water Extraction

An environmentally friendly and sustainable pure water extraction process

Enzogenol® is produced using a pure water-only extraction method and Pinus radiata bark from trees grown in a pristine and unpolluted environment.

Our key ingredient of Enzolife products, Enzogenol(R), is obtained by the internationally patented Pure Water Extraction method. The Pure Water Extraction process is a method that extracts natural antioxidants including flavonoids from New Zealand grown pine bark by only using pure water. No other solvents or chemicals are used for extration and we successfully removed any risk of chemicals remaining in the extract.

In addition, it does not discharge any industrial waste by constructing Eco-friendly production line and Enzogenol is a raw material made from environmentally-awareness from tree harvesting to process and distribution. The sustainable and ecologically sound extraction process uses only pure, deionised water, with zero chemicals and solvents, leaving completely natural by-products. The by-products are water and a fine bark mulch used for gardens, in compost mixes or as floor covering in stables.

Enzogenol’s Chemical Composition

Enzogenol®is a vegetable phenol compound consisting of a variety of flavonoids and phenolic acids contained in Pinus radiata pine bark.

Flavonoid general structure

Enzogenol®is a vegetable phenol compound consisting of a variety of flavonoids and phenolic acids contained in Pinus radiata pine bark. Proanthocyanidin, a phenolic component, accounts for over 80% of the weight of the Enzogenol®. It is known to be highly antioxidant, and it is said to function dozens of times better than vitamin C to suppress Reactive oxygen. Flavonoids are polyphenolic compounds, which are a major class of secondary metabolite biosynthesized throughout the plant kingdom and therefore found in foodstuffs derived from plant sources.

Enzogenol is a complex mixture of plant phenolic compounds including many different flavonoids and phenolic acids that occur naturally in the pine bark. Phenolic constituents include proanthocyanidins – these are oligo- or polymers of catechins. The proanthocyanidins (often referred to as OPCs = oligomeric proanthocyanidins) are the most abundent group of phenolics in Enzogenol with more than 80% by weight. Further, a diverse range of other flavonoids and related phenolics present in Enzogenol include the catechin, quercetin, taxifolin, piceatannol, and phenolic acids.

Antioxidant Activity

90% of the diseases that cause aging are related to reactive oxygen radicals. Reactive oxygen is harmful substances known as the main culprits of various chronic diseases and ageing by attacking cells and DNA in the body, and they cause atherosclerosis, kidney disease, and allergic dermatitis as well as chronic gastrointestinal disease, and headache.

The reason why reactive oxygen is dangerous is that it causes damage to our bodies, whether immediately or in the long term. When reactive oxygen is strongly oxidized in the body, cells, proteins, and DNA are damaged, resulting in abnormalities in the cell structure or functional signalling system.
It also causes various adult diseases such as cancer, diabetes, and high blood pressure, as well as causes ageing by hurting genes in the body, oxidizing fats to make cholesterol oxide. Oxidative stress is what damages normal cells due to increased free oxygen concentration. Humans consistently produce free radicals, so they cannot prevent production itself. Therefore, Human body need to consume antioxidants to reduce reactive oxygen which is all the source of disease. According to a study conducted by Wood et al. (ref), Other vegetable extracts, vitaminC, and Catechin was compared to Enzogenol® on antioxidant effects and as shown in the graph below the experimental results, Enzogenol® showed a significant antioxidant effect compared to other ingredients.

Oxidative stress has been implicated in the development and progression of numerous diseases, and plays an important role in the ageing process. Under oxidative stress our body’s defenses are overwhelmed by the production of free radicals arising from disease, metabolism, exercise, and environmental factors like smoking, pollution, and UV rays. The resulting oxidation damages molecules in our cells including lipids, proteins and DNA, and in turn can destroy cell function. Loss in cell function leads to loss in organ function which contributes to the development of chronic diseases, exacerbates existing conditions, and generally ages our body.

The results from two human clinical studies demonstrated how Enzogenol can protect our body from oxidation and reduce the damage to our cellular building blocks, in particular, proteins and DNA.* Proteins and DNA in every cell of our body are subject to oxidative damage. The lower the level of this damage the less oxidation is occurring, and the healthier we are.

According to study conducted by Wood et al. (Ref), a short-term supplement over 5 weeks with combined PBE and Vitamin C improved the speed of response on spatial working memory and immediate recognition tasks, whereas supplementation with Vitamin C alone showed no Improvement. Researchers determined that the average brain age of subjects who took Enzogenol® consistently for 5 weeks was up to 12 years younger than the other who took vitamin C alone. It shows that Enzogenol has a significant impact on cognitive performance, blood pressure, and standard haematological safety parameters and has a synergy effect with other ingredients.

The study also investigated how Enzogenol can affect brain electrical activities and interactions between brain regions.
Analyses showed that Enzogenol led to great cognitive processing, with brain patters indicating calmness and a high degree of focus and concentration.
